Heinz arrived in Canada in 1953, grateful for the opportunity to make a new start, and he never looked back. He was, in a word, a genius: a self-taught mechanic, cabinet maker, wood carver, farmer, inventor, and much more. Jack of all trades and master of all, he was always generous with his time and knowledge. Heinz was the go-to person for everything by everyone who knew him (and even those who didn’t). He lived life to the fullest, retiring from formal employment at age 46 to work in the comfort of his garage workshop, enjoying 40 years of life on his own terms, until his passing on August 21, 2015. He shared, with family and friends, his passion for fishing, skiing, mountain climbing, bird-watching, and afternoon highballs (prost!). Predeceased by his wife Ruby, he will be greatly missed by his daughter Karin and his grandchildren Ryan and Asia.
Friends may pay respects at the
Kelly Funeral Home, Kanata Chapel
580 Eagleson Road, Kanata, ON K2M 1H4
613-591-6580
on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. A Celebration of Heinz's life will follow at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brain Injury Association of Canada would be welcome.
